The proclamation

The proclamation of the Fiestas del Pilar takes place on the first day of the big week, which this year will be Saturday, October 8. Every year, the peñas of Zaragoza parade through the streets accompanied by charangas to meet at Paseo Independencia to kick off the festivities. The parade then continues along Alfonso Street until it reaches the Plaza del Pilar. There, the pregoneros of 2023, the Casademont Zaragoza players, will give their speech and light the rocket that will inaugurate the Fiestas del Pilar.

Floral Offering

The Offering of Flowers (Ofrenda de Flores) is the main event of the Fiestas del Pilar. Every October 12, thousands of people deliver bouquets of flowers to the Virgin of Pilar, which are carefully placed by volunteers, forming a kind of pyramid 9 meters high. On this day, Zaragozans and people coming from all over Spain, dress up in regional costumes in an offering to the patron saint of Hispanity that usually lasts more than 10 hours. To participate as an offerer, you have to register on the website of the city council.

Fruits Offering

It is celebrated on October 13, one day after the Offering of Flowers. This event is similar to the previous one since you also have to go to the Plaza del Pilar to make an offering, but here the Zaragozans offer the best food of their land to their patron saint. The route begins in the Plaza de Santa Engracia and ends, of course, at the feet of the Virgin, where thousands of fruits are placed. The food collected is donated to the Hermandad del Refugio.

Giants and big-heads

The Comparsa de Gigantes y Cabezudos (Giants and Big-heads) will be parading through the streets of Zaragoza throughout the week of festivities. It is the perfect opportunity for a family outing.

Fairgrounds

One of the main meeting places during the Fiestas del Pilar is the fairground of Valdespartera. Here you can enjoy more than 100 attractions, tombolas, food stalls and even circus shows with the Mistyke Circus.

Fireworks

On the night of Saturday the 14th, the Fiestas del Pilar are rounded off with fireworks displays next to the Basilica, on the banks of the Ebro River.

In addition to those mentioned above, you can also enjoy other activities such as traditional dances, bullfights, craft exhibitions, markets, contests and concerts.
